ATLÉTICO DE MADRID

Atlético de Madrid was founded in 1903.  Their stadium is Vincente Calderón located at Paseo Virgen del Puerto 67 Madrid.  Their nickname is "colchoneros" or "mattress boys" because of the red and white striped shirts that the players wear.  Legend says that the shirts were originally made from mattress ticking purloined ("borrowed") from local factories.  Now it is even part of their symbol (above).  Their stadium was built in 1966.   The "sacred monument" of Atlético de Madrid is the Neptune Fountain.
