PLAZA DE CIBELES

Cibeles is the Roman goddess of nature.  The fountain in the plaza (Fuente de la Cibeles) is one of the more famous landmarks in Madrid and is considered to be one of its symbols.  The fountain shows Cibeles sitting in a chariot drawn by two lions.  The fountain was designed in the 18th century.

Going south from the Plaza de Cibeles you will encounter the Fuente de Apolo (Fountain of Apollo) and the Fuente de Neptuno (Fountain of Neptune).
