Museo Thyssen - Bornemisza
This museum was the result of a private collection of the Baron Heinrich Thyssen - Bornemisza and his son. It is installed in the 18th century Villahermosa Palace. It was opened in 1992 and given to the country of Spain in 1993.
The collection began in the 1920's and was intended to illustrate the history of Western art. As such it contains early works of Italian and Flemish painters all the way through 20th Century Pop Art. It contains works by such renowned artists as Titian, Goya, Van Gogh and Picasso. It is regarded as one of the most important private collections in the world.
